January 1st 2022 – The Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade. Elon Musk will acquire Twitter and fears of worldwide inflation will dominate the world’s economy. In February Russia invades Ukraine.
January 1st 2021 – Supporters of Donald Trump attack the Capitol to prevent the peaceful transition of government.
January 1st 2020 – Covid – 19 takes its toll globally. Time magazine declares 2020 to be ‘worst year ever.’ Floods inundate Indonesia while fires burn out of control in Australia. Trump loses election but has appointed 3 Supreme Court justices during his term.
January 1st 2019 – Covid pandemic spreads. Venezuela breaks diplomatic ties with the U.S. Huawei, a huge Chinese tech firm, accused of fraud by Justice Dept.
January 1st 2018 – Space X launches new, more powerful rocket. Mid-term elections will increase dysfunction as Democrats launch Trump impeachment effort. 17 students and staff are killed in mass shooting in Parkland, Florida.
January 1st 2017 – Donald Trump and Mike Pence sworn in on a campaign of ‘clean the swamp.’ 20 million face starvation in Yemen, Somalia, and South Sudan. The United Kingdom begins its exit from Brexit.
January 1st 2016 – North Korea expands its long-range missile program. Ex-Bosnian Serb leader Karadžić is sentenced to 40 years for genocide. 11 million pages, ‘the Panama papers,’ reveal public figures involved in off-shore drug companies.
January 1st 2015 – Lithuania joins the Eurozone. Muslim gunmen slaughter 12 people when they raid a satirical Paris newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, for displaying a picture of Mohammed. Greece continues to flounder from bankruptcy.January 1st
